Here is where we decide, by the setting sun and rising tide If we stay and fade or test our reach, darling won't you just come with me
[ Wait for me. Padmé repeated those words like a prayer in the hours following Obi-Wan's departure, trying to find some comfort in them while drowning in her fear. It couldn't be true. Anakin wouldn't do things like that, he was a good man who had never wanted anything more than to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. He wouldn't... not younglings...
Everything in her urged her to follow him, to take her ship and journey to that volcanic planet and try to stop whatever was happening to him. But already he might be on his way home, and if what Obi-Wan said about the Chancellor was true—
As night fell on the city planet, she packed. They couldn't stay. Whatever was happening, where before she would have stood her ground and fought, now she feared for the life of her child. Their child, who would not be raised in the shadow of the Sith. She would die before allowing such a thing to happen. ]
[A few moments sooner and she might have missed him. She might have escaped into the night, fleeing from the horrors that consumed Anakin down to his soul. Just a few moments is all it would have took.
But he arrived, and though his eyes did not shine with the amber colored hatred that plagued them earlier, a certain darkness still lingered within. She was packing, good. He assumed it was to come with him, to be at his side, but he also sensed fear. Was it of him? Did she know?
He silently stepped through the apartment, watching her for a brief moment before speaking.]
I'm glad you waited. And that you're safe. I was worried something might have happened while I was away.
[ Turning at the sound of his voice, she forgot for a moment why she was so afraid. For a split second, she was simply welcoming her husband home, a husband who had been away fighting in a war for most of their marriage and who she'd missed and worried for terribly. But then she saw him and it all came crashing back down upon her. ]
Anakin! [ Quick, smooth strides took her to him, hands reaching up to gently frame his face, touching his hair, his cheek, the strong line of his jaw. Reassuring herself he was home, because she couldn't be certain he was safe even in her arms. ]
Something did happen. Obi-Wan was here and he told me-- He told me about the Chancellor. And about the younglings. Ani, is it true? [ She was panicked, desperate for answers and so afraid for him that it left a bitter taste on her tongue. It couldn't be true, and yet in looking at him, she already knew it was. ]
[He embraced her, just like everyone was normal. Just like he came home from a usual day. Not a day with dark intentions, with the Jedi order crumbling and Anakin having given himself to the darkness.
The anger, hate, pain of the darkside lifted for a brief moment as they were in each others arms. For a moment it was just another day. Then he heard those words and the darkness crept back up. He stood back to look at her -- to stare into her eyes.]
Obi-Wan? Don't listen to him. He ... he turned on us, Padme. All of them did. The Jedi, everyone. I tried to stop it. They attacked the Chancellor. It's been a mess. But don't worry, you'll be safe now. I promise.
have a force ghost or a dream or a vision of your grandson from another continuity lol
Jacen blinked, the sight before him familiar and alien at the same time. Coruscant. He was on Coruscant, but it wasn’t the Coruscant he remembered, neither the sprawling planet of his youth nor the city remade to the Yuuzhan Vong’s liking. It was still busy, still full of buildings and lights and speeders... but it didn’t feel anything like the Coruscant he knew.
The Force here was strong, for one. Not just the bursting with life kind of strong. It was the Jedi kind of strong, almost like there was a temple out there somewhere—
Something from behind him rustled, and he swiftly turned around to check it out. He’d sensed the other before he actually saw him, and even after seeing him, he didn’t know what to believe.
How was this possible? How could he be standing on a veranda at the same time as Anakin Skywalker? He tried to tell himself that this was just a dream, but a part of him knew with certainty that this was something else entirely. Not a trick of the Force, but definitely something of the Force.
He smiled uneasily at his grandfather, who looked uncharacteristically troubled for someone called the Hero With No Fear. But there was no mistaking who he was. This was Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One.
Anakin is no stranger to visions of the future. Unfortunately they usually came in horrific nightmares. For something or someone to appear right next to him was quite unusual. He took a step back to stare at the newcomer. He felt ... familiar. A similar power in the force.
"Do I know you?"
He had to know him. He felt it. There was no mistaking it. He just couldn't place the how or where or even why.
In retrospect he probably should have said something more profound for an introduction, or at least something like a hello. He was mostly caught off guard and unsure if this happened to be a vision, hallucination, or someone who just happened to sneak up on him.
Was this what flow-walking’s supposed to be like? Jacen hadn’t been zeroing in on a particular memory or situation, which would probably account for why he’d been brought so far back into the past — back to when there was still no Empire, no Death Star, no Darth Vader.
At Anakin’s question, his smile became more natural, more welcoming. Somehow, even without them ever meeting, Anakin recognized him. As a familiar presence. Maybe even as family.
“No, but I know you.” Not a lot of relics from the Old Republic survived, but a few holos of Anakin had somehow been recovered by Luke and his Jedi. Jacen couldn’t resist grinning. “Hello, Grandfather.”
"Grandfather?" The words struck him like a bolder. He knew Padme was pregnant but for some reason hearing those words from someone who appeared to be his age was just more surreal than anything else.
"You're from the future." He couldn't deny it exactly. He sensed no deception and felt no reason to disbelieve him as odd as it all may be. "Are you a vision? Have you come to tell me something? A warning?"
He couldn't help but think a vision from the future would be bad news, it always was. Nightmares of terrible things to pass, that's all he ever saw. He imagined this would be no different.
Still, if this person was his grandson that means his family survived into the future. That in itself gave him a small feeling of relief.
“Yes. My name is Jacen Solo, eldest of your daughter’s two sons,” he introduced. “And I am a Jedi.”
At Anakin’s statement that he was from the future, however, he had to duck his head a little. “I suppose I am, although I have no idea how this is happening.” It felt kind of embarrassing to be a Jedi and not have any answers, but he really had nothing to offer. So he just shrugged. “Maybe I’m a vision. Or a ghost, but last I checked I’m still alive.”
Had he come with a message? None that he knew of. But the Force had wanted them to meet, for some reason—
Catching a small shift in the air, he tilted his head curiously to glance at the room Anakin had emerged from, then back at his grandfather. He’d sensed relief, but also... worry. “What ails you, Grandfather? Or would you rather I call you Master Skywalker?”
