[A few moments sooner and she might have missed him. She might have escaped into the night, fleeing from the horrors that consumed Anakin down to his soul. Just a few moments is all it would have took.
But he arrived, and though his eyes did not shine with the amber colored hatred that plagued them earlier, a certain darkness still lingered within. She was packing, good. He assumed it was to come with him, to be at his side, but he also sensed fear. Was it of him? Did she know?
He silently stepped through the apartment, watching her for a brief moment before speaking.]
I'm glad you waited. And that you're safe. I was worried something might have happened while I was away.
[ Turning at the sound of his voice, she forgot for a moment why she was so afraid. For a split second, she was simply welcoming her husband home, a husband who had been away fighting in a war for most of their marriage and who she'd missed and worried for terribly. But then she saw him and it all came crashing back down upon her. ]
Anakin! [ Quick, smooth strides took her to him, hands reaching up to gently frame his face, touching his hair, his cheek, the strong line of his jaw. Reassuring herself he was home, because she couldn't be certain he was safe even in her arms. ]
Something did happen. Obi-Wan was here and he told me-- He told me about the Chancellor. And about the younglings. Ani, is it true? [ She was panicked, desperate for answers and so afraid for him that it left a bitter taste on her tongue. It couldn't be true, and yet in looking at him, she already knew it was. ]
[He embraced her, just like everyone was normal. Just like he came home from a usual day. Not a day with dark intentions, with the Jedi order crumbling and Anakin having given himself to the darkness.
The anger, hate, pain of the darkside lifted for a brief moment as they were in each others arms. For a moment it was just another day. Then he heard those words and the darkness crept back up. He stood back to look at her -- to stare into her eyes.]
Obi-Wan? Don't listen to him. He ... he turned on us, Padme. All of them did. The Jedi, everyone. I tried to stop it. They attacked the Chancellor. It's been a mess. But don't worry, you'll be safe now. I promise.
