Anakin is no stranger to visions of the future. Unfortunately they usually came in horrific nightmares. For something or someone to appear right next to him was quite unusual. He took a step back to stare at the newcomer. He felt ... familiar. A similar power in the force.
"Do I know you?"
He had to know him. He felt it. There was no mistaking it. He just couldn't place the how or where or even why.
In retrospect he probably should have said something more profound for an introduction, or at least something like a hello. He was mostly caught off guard and unsure if this happened to be a vision, hallucination, or someone who just happened to sneak up on him.
Was this what flow-walking’s supposed to be like? Jacen hadn’t been zeroing in on a particular memory or situation, which would probably account for why he’d been brought so far back into the past — back to when there was still no Empire, no Death Star, no Darth Vader.
At Anakin’s question, his smile became more natural, more welcoming. Somehow, even without them ever meeting, Anakin recognized him. As a familiar presence. Maybe even as family.
“No, but I know you.” Not a lot of relics from the Old Republic survived, but a few holos of Anakin had somehow been recovered by Luke and his Jedi. Jacen couldn’t resist grinning. “Hello, Grandfather.”
"Grandfather?" The words struck him like a bolder. He knew Padme was pregnant but for some reason hearing those words from someone who appeared to be his age was just more surreal than anything else.
"You're from the future." He couldn't deny it exactly. He sensed no deception and felt no reason to disbelieve him as odd as it all may be. "Are you a vision? Have you come to tell me something? A warning?"
He couldn't help but think a vision from the future would be bad news, it always was. Nightmares of terrible things to pass, that's all he ever saw. He imagined this would be no different.
Still, if this person was his grandson that means his family survived into the future. That in itself gave him a small feeling of relief.
“Yes. My name is Jacen Solo, eldest of your daughter’s two sons,” he introduced. “And I am a Jedi.”
At Anakin’s statement that he was from the future, however, he had to duck his head a little. “I suppose I am, although I have no idea how this is happening.” It felt kind of embarrassing to be a Jedi and not have any answers, but he really had nothing to offer. So he just shrugged. “Maybe I’m a vision. Or a ghost, but last I checked I’m still alive.”
Had he come with a message? None that he knew of. But the Force had wanted them to meet, for some reason—
Catching a small shift in the air, he tilted his head curiously to glance at the room Anakin had emerged from, then back at his grandfather. He’d sensed relief, but also... worry. “What ails you, Grandfather? Or would you rather I call you Master Skywalker?”
